Position Summary:

Antilles School seeks an experienced and dynamic Social Studies Teacher to join a committed team of educators in a collaborative environment that values flexible thinking and problem-solving. The ideal candidate is a passionate and self-motivated professional, prepared to teach a range of college preparatory courses that support diverse learning styles and abilities. A demonstrated commitment to working within a culturally and ethnically diverse community is essential. Teachers are expected to apply best practices and integrate technology in meaningful and educationally sound ways.

The position includes leading the Middle School social studies program, including courses such as Art History, Ancient Civilizations, World Geography, and World History. The ideal candidate is a student-centered educator who brings history and current events to life while fostering creativity, critical thinking, empathy, and a strong sense of civic responsibility. Strong emphasis is placed on the development of research, public speaking, and writing skills, and candidates should have experience supporting students in these areas. The Middle and Upper School Social Studies Department seeks a teacher committed to the creative delivery of content, hands-on and experiential learning, and active collaboration with colleagues.

Core responsibilities:

Instructional Excellence

  • Design and implement developmentally appropriate, student-centered lessons that support differentiated learning

  • Provide timely and meaningful feedback on student learning and progress

  • Maintain gradebooks and design assessments aligned with curricular goals

  • Integrate authentic materials, relevant technology, and interdisciplinary connections into instruction

  • Provide academic support to students before and after school, as needed

Commitment to Whole-Child Development

  • Support students’ social and emotional development

  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel safe, valued, and respected

  • Serve as an advisor within the school’s advisory program, building relationships and supporting student growth

Collaboration and Collegiality

  • Communicate regularly and proactively with parents/guardians regarding student progress

  • Maintain open and professional communication with colleagues and school community members

  • Attend and engage meaningfully in faculty meetings, division meetings, and professional development opportunities

  • Actively participate in the life of the school beyond the classroom

 

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred

  • Demonstrated content expertise in social studies disciplines relevant to the position 

  • Strong understanding of pedagogy and adolescent intellectual development

  • Proven ability to build and maintain meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, and families

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Commitment to fostering a culturally competent and inclusive classroom environment

  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated professional

  • Proficiency with educational technology platforms (e.g., Google Workspace, learning management systems, and digital gradebooks)
