Position Summary:
Antilles School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Lower School Physical Education & Health Teacher to lead a developmentally appropriate, engaging program that promotes lifelong physical well-being, teamwork, and healthy living for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physical education, child development, and wellness, and be committed to cultivating a positive, inclusive, and active learning environment that reflects the School’s whole-child approach.
This teacher will design and implement a curriculum that emphasizes physical literacy, cooperative games, sports skills, personal health, and social-emotional learning, in collaboration with classroom teachers and school leadership.
Core Responsibilities:
Instructional Excellence
Design and implement a comprehensive PE and health curriculum aligned with national standards and school values.
Promote the development of gross motor skills, coordination, fitness, sportsmanship, and healthy habits.
Integrate social-emotional learning and character development into physical education and health instruction.
Ensure lessons are inclusive, differentiated, and developmentally appropriate for diverse learners.
Assess student progress and maintain accurate records of participation and achievement.
Student Engagement & Whole-Child Development
Foster a safe, supportive, and energetic environment that encourages risk-taking and personal growth.
Promote respect, collaboration, and responsibility through physical activity.
Contribute to the development of student wellness initiatives and school-wide health education efforts.
Support recess and physical play activities and help maintain the safety and integrity of physical spaces and equipment.
Collaboration and Communication
Communicate proactively with families about student progress, program goals, and events.
Partner with classroom teachers to support cross-curricular connections and student well-being.
Collaborate with colleagues to plan school-wide events such as Field Day, wellness weeks, Jogathon, and other fundraisers.
Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and the life of the school community.
Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
At least three years of teaching experience in an early childhood or elementary school setting preferred.
Demonstrated understanding of child development and age-appropriate physical education practices.
Strong interpersonal and classroom management skills.
CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain upon hire.
A culturally competent, team-oriented educator with a commitment to inclusive practices.
Enthusiastic, flexible, and self-motivated with a growth mindset and joy for working with children.
